Moses is born in a dark period of history. He is placed by his mother into the Nile River a slave and brought out a son of the King. He is saved through the waters and trained in Pharaoh's house. After killing an Egyptian he flees to the wilderness and sits down by a well where he finds a wife.

The temple in Jerusalem lay in a heap of ruin because of Israel's sin and idolatry. After 70 years in exile and a frustrated start, the temple is finally rebuilt in our text today. We are told that it was by decree of God using foreign kings and people and the Jewish people to reclaim a place for his glory in a house of worship.
