The good news of Jesus according to Matthew begins with a powerful genealogy that reveals two assertions. 1. Jesus is the coming King that has been anticipated in the Hebrew Bible. 2. His kingdom is for everyone with examples of 4 women included in the genealogy that were grafted in to the line of Jesus.

The ten commandments are some of the most well known words from the Bible but it is placed in the middle of an often forgotten story. The placement of the 10 commandments help us understand the purpose of the words. The law reveals our sin, fear, broken relationships but also gives hope in revealing the one who can redeem broken humanity, Jesus!

The people of Israel have been called out for a purpose. Living in slavery they call out to God who saves them by the innocent blood of the lamb, through the water and led into the wilderness. They come to the mountain where God will give them a calling to be a Kingdom of Priests!

Moses is reunited with his family and recalls how God has worked on Israel's behalf. The next day Jethro notices that Moses is sitting in the seat of judge from morning until evening and gives some sound advice to Moses. He asks him two questions, what are you doing and why are you doing it alone. The main mission of the people of God is to make disciples and they need a plurality of leadership.

Then the Amalekites wag war on them and as long as the man of God on the hill has the staff of the Lord raised high the children of God win the battle.

Israel is freed from slavery in Egypt but the journey inside from slavery to being free in Christ is a much longer process. A slavery mentality compares and complains, always grasps for more and can never stop striving and working. Freedom in Christ allows you to be present and thankful, satisfied and with ability to rest.

The people of Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry ground and watched as God sent the waters to destroy the Egyptian Army. In Chapter 15 a song interrupts the story. God leads the people on a process through the song of soliciting emotions and giving new meaning to the events they have walked through.

Guest speaker Jake Kopra. After the people of Israel are freed by Pharaoh, God leads them to a dead end at the Red Sea. It is there between a rock and a hard place that God will make a way for them through the water. They must learn to trust and obey as the Lord guides them.

After the people of Israel are saved from slavery in Egypt they begin a another journey. We see that three things happen to them after they are saved. They are consecrated, changed and called to a life of faith. Our journey's resemble that of Israel, saved by the blood of perfect, innocent lamb and called out for a purpose!

God calls Israel out of slavery in Egypt but before they are ready to go they will need to let go of any idols they are holding on to. God in the plagues confronts the gods of Egypt and shows just who He is. Over and over we are told that God is bringing the plagues so that "you will know that I am the LORD and there is no one like me!"
