Christmas 2020 - Light in the Darkness

The story of Christmas is not about the hope that the darkness will be taken away but that the light will come. The Christmas story is of the light coming often in the darkness of night!

The last words of Peters first letter to elect exiles scattered all over modern day Turkey. Peter wants believers to be ready when suffering comes to be humble, sober-minded and watchful.

Special guest speaker Chris Gorman, area minister for the NAB. The call for elders to shepherd the flock with the right motivation and in the right way. This message culminated in the installation of two new elders at Hollyview!

1 Peter 4 - In Light of Eternity

Peter gives us a new way to think, live, give and rejoice in light of eternity. We will all face struggles and suffering at times in our life but Peter wants us to live fully in the moment rather than distract or numb the pain. 

1 Peter 3:8-22 - Strong Mind & Soft Heart

As elect exiles we will face difficulties and suffering in this world. Peter wants to prepare us to navigate this well with a strong mind, soft heart and a song on our lips. We also see the grounds for a healthy perspective on sufferings through the example of Jesus explained by the story of Noah and baptism.

1 Peter 3:1-7 - Honoring Relationships

Peter addresses husbands and wives and encourages them to like servants of God honor each other in the way they relate to each other.

1 Peter 2:11-25 - With all due respect.

There is a war raging in the soul of humanity. As elect exiles we are called to live honorably in this broken world battling the passions that rage within. Peter gives us the creed of the exiles' life. Honor everyone. Love the Brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. What does it look like to honor the emperor and to honor everyone? We have the choice to exclude or embrace. Which will you choose?

1 Peter 2:1-13 - Ambassadors of Hope

Guest speaker Ryan Glover. As believers in Jesus, we have been given a vocation as ambassadors to the world around us. They are watching what we do and listening to what we say. Do they see Jesus in you?
