1 Samuel 28 & 29 - Robe of Disguise

Deception often comes from the root of fear.  We are afraid of being known, getting hurt or being rejected so we put on a disguise to deceive others. In these two chapters we consider two stories, one concerning David and the other of Saul both trying to deceive.

Psalm 4 - Joy comes from the Lord (Caleb Wright)

1 Samuel 26-27 - Speaking to your heart

David has an epic victory in an adrenaline rushing story of sneaking into the enemy camp to steal the king's spear and being blessed by his enemy. The mountain top experience leaves him vulnerable to deep discouragement just moments later. It's what we say to our hearts in those times that will guide us. We need to the Lord's Word to be our light.

1 Samuel 24-25 -Of Kings and Fools - Saul and Nabal

The pattern of human history is to repay evil with evil. Someone harms you, you harm them back and on and on it goes. T
The brokenness of hurting people hurting people, repaying evil for evil is only stopped with a righteous mediator that gives their life as a substitute. Where justice is restored, and wrongs are made right, and forgiveness is the currency of the kingdom.

John 13:33-35 - Love one another!

Jesus was crucified around the Passover which helps gives meaning to his death as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
The Holy Spirit came on a holiday they had celebrated for 1,500 years, Pentecost. Pentecost helps give meaning to the start of the church and the Spirit coming down!

1 Samuel 17 - David and Goliath

In this popular Bible story, we see an anointed King of Israel doing the will of his father. He comes to his own brothers and is rejected but still goes to the valley to serve as the representative to conquer death and slavery and bring freedom for his people. The story of David and Goliath has some great moral lessons but has so much more power when understood through a Biblical Theological framework! We are not David, we are the ones who need a David and have one in Jesus. He is worthy to follow and give our lives to.
